At the closing ceremony, winners of the Best Fan Party, the Best Fan Table, and the gold awards for the Call for Young Adult Literature and Art of the “Fictional Enjoyment of Future” Excellent Traditional Chinese Theme Science Fiction Works were announced. Also, the Chengdu Worldcon Brand Promotion Center was established with Hai Ya, Lu Ban, Ren Qing, Zhao Enzhe, and Jiu Li becoming the tutors of the Hugo X College.

With the music of “Come and Get Your Love”, Ben Yalow declared the 81st World Science Fiction Convention closed. Chen Shi, co-chair of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon, handed over the gavel to Vincent Docherty, the representative of Glasgow, the host city of the next Worldcon in 2024, and presented him with a unique gift from Chengdu, a cloisonne enamel painting, one of the Chinese intangible cultural heritages. The painting was made by teachers and students from the Chengdu Pidu Huaai School. The painting depicts nebulae, the mascot Kormo, hibiscus flowers, and the University of Glasgow, which is often referred to as a real-life Hogwarts in Harry Potter. The painting symbolizes the inheritance and free imagination of the Worldcon from Chengdu in 2023 to Glasgow in 2024.

The 2023 Chengdu Worldcon has left a deep impression on sci-fi fans. “If I were the organizer of the Worldcon, I would want to hold the convention in Chengdu every year," said Matthew Balcerak, an American sci-fi fan. Jonas Schmidt, a German sci-fi fan, mentioned, “I think it’s a great opportunity for both Chinese and international sci-fi fans, and it’s definitely worth it for sci-fi fans to come to China.” Jeong-Yunho, a Korean sci-fi fan, said in an interview, “I hope that sci-fi fans around the world can feel the romance of Chengdu through this convention.”

Dave McCarty, the vice chairman of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon and leader of the Hugo Awards jury, spoke highly of the convention. “I hope this kind of event can be held around the world. This convention is full of sci-fi, and Chengdu is a great place to host the Worldcon.” Robert J. Sawyer, a renowned sci-fi writer and honorary guest of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon said, “Every minute of this convention has exceeded my expectations. It is amazing. It is the best World Science Fiction Convention ever!”

Prof. Esther MacCallum-Stewart, the chair of the 2024 Glasgow Worldcon, greeted the audience through a video call and invited fans from all over the world to attend the convention held in Glasgow .

A total of more than 1,200 guests and over 20,000 sci-fi fans from 35 countries and regions participated in the 200 more theme programs held during the convention. It is believed that the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon is just the beginning. In the future, as a sci-fi city, Chengdu will become more distinctive and more recognizable with the development of its sci-fi industry chain.
