“Eastern Fantasy”:A Metaverse Sci-Fi Fest 2.0

      2021年新学期,在久有盛名的泰山脚下的一家本科院校,成立了中国第三家以“科幻”为名的学院。一年多的时间,这座名为“蓬莱科幻学院”的机构已经在业内广为人知。它虽然位于泰山,但是取名“蓬莱”——那是中国古代的“乌托邦/理想国”的象征,这其中蕴含着丰富的东方文化内涵。

   As the new semester of 2021 started, the third academy under the name of “Sci-Fi” in China, was founded in an undergraduate college at the foot of the famed Mount Tai. More than one year later, the institute of “Penglai SF Academy” has enjoyed a high level of reputation among professionals for the eastern cultural aesthetics that flows throughout its veins. The name “Penglai”, despite the true location of the academy being Mount Tai, was adopted for its reference to the “Utopian” in ancient China.

        The “Eastern Fantasy”:A Metaverse Sci-Fi Fest 2.0 is convened by Lucia Luo, Dean of Penglai SF Academy, and Tongzhou Yu, Deputy Director of Institute of Media and Interaction Design - School of Design and Innovation of China Academy of Art, and organized by the two academies. With the Executive Committee of the World Science Fiction Conference as a special guest in the Second Event, the conference is co-organized by MYStudio and Meta Art Station, supported by Eight Light Minutes Culture, Chengdu Science Fiction Association, Raiden INST and MANA Global New Media Art Platform. Fengyuzhu provides technical support and Baidu Xirang provides technical platform. The conference includes the inaugural ceremony of Penglai SF Academy, the DocuMETA, Summit Forum and the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon sharing session.

Origin

       2022年6月,蓬莱科幻学院与中国美术学院创新设计学院媒介与交互研究所联合举办了首届“东方幻想”元宇宙科幻大会,开创了中国元宇宙科幻艺术大会的先河,引发国内科幻界和艺术界广泛关注。但是由于疫情,嘉宾无法到场,学院的成立仪式一直未能顺利举办。学院教师们也在关注更广泛的交流障碍:我们时常感到,身处日益割裂的世界,以往见面是那样容易,而当下变得如此艰难,距离和隔离使人们无法相见并推进工作。面对这样的境况,如何重启交流?

    In June of 2022, the academy co-hosted “Eastern Fantasy: A Metaverse Sci-Fi Fest” with the School of Innovation and Design, China Academy of Art, burgeoning an upsurge that brought together the whole sci-fi community in China and playing a pioneering role in hosting the Chinese Metaverse Sci-fi Art Fest. Nonetheless, we are constantly overwhelmed by the feeling that seeing each other in person has become such a luxury in this increasingly fragmented world. Gone are the days when meeting one another was casual and easy. We also concern about broader communication barriers: The distance and quarantines have made it impossible for us to meet or carry on with our work. How can communication be re-activated under such circumstances?


  

   集合作家、学者、艺术家和技术团队,借助元宇宙和XR技术,将科幻及文学、艺术的内容,注入线上虚拟,搭建对话与交流的平台——这一命题实际上讨论的是“人”在此等语境下如何交流、如何生存。元宇宙作为一扇窗,让我们一窥“后人类”的时代。无论从技术层面还是从文化层面,后人类都可能从现有的元宇宙中继承。“东方幻想”元宇宙科幻大会2.0,就是在这样的理念下所诞生。


       We bring onboard writers, scholars, artists and tech teams to inject more content of sci-fi, literature and art into the virtual world online, by means of the metaverse and XR technologies, to establish a platform for communication and dialogue —— this is, in fact, a proposition about how “people” communicate and live in this context. The metaverse opens up a window through which we can take a peek into the post-human era. What is in the metaverse now, technically or culturally, is likely to be inherited by posthuman. “Eastern Fantasy”: A Metaverse Sci Fi Fest 2.0 was born with this idea.

       扩展“东方幻想”的空间:不应只站在东方看东方,而应从东方走向世界。第二届元宇宙科幻大会邀请到2023成都世界科幻大会执委会作为嘉宾参与,在第一届以国内为主的基础上,增加国际化的视野和跨文化的内容。世界科幻大会是世界科幻协会主办的年度科幻盛会,被誉为“科幻界诺贝尔奖”的“雨果奖”即于会上颁发。2023成都世界科幻大会是首次在中国举办,意义非凡,全球科幻界的目光将齐聚中国。

        We are expanding the idea of “Eastern Fantasy”from the East to beyond, and eventually bring our fantasy to the broader world. It is an honor for the Metaverse Sci-Fi Fest 2.0 to invite the Worldcon as a special guest, bringing in international visions and cross-cultural content on the basis of 1.0 version. The Worldcon is an annual sci-fi event hosted by the World Science Fiction Association, at which the Hugo Award, known as the Nobel Prize in Science Fiction, is awarded. The 2023 Chengdu Worldcon is particularly meaningful, as it is the first time for China to be the host, welcoming sci-fi communities around the globe.


       大会也在泰山科技学院设置线下会场,部分嘉宾以线上方式共襄盛举。中国著名科幻作家刘慈欣、中国科普作家协会副理事长尹传红、南方科技大学教授吴岩、上海交通大学副教授施东来、钓鱼城科幻学院院长张凡等为蓬莱科幻学院成立发来贺辞,蓬莱科幻学院院长吟光代表主办方致辞。

        The fest is also the inauguration ceremony of Penglai SF Academy. The on-site venue in the academy and virtual venue for the guests attending remotely are in place for the grand event, breaking the boundary between the online and offline world. Liu Cixin(famous Chinese science fiction writer),Yin Chuanhong, Managing Director of China Science Writers Association, Wuyan, Professor of Southern University of Science and Technology, Shi Donglai, Associate Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University send congratulatory videos for the founding ceremony. Geng Xianwen, President of Taishan College of Science and Technology, Xie Chenghong, Vice President of Taishan College of Science and Technology, and Zhang Fan, Dean of fishing fortress Science Fiction Academy, Lucia Luo, Dean of Penglai SF Academy will attend the speech and inaugurate the college.

 Metaverse: From Digital  Bard to Posthuman

   本次大会围绕“东方幻想”主题,设置了由蓬莱科幻学院院长吟光、首席科幻作家杨平及八光分文化联合发起的“元宇宙:从数字吟游到后人类”论坛,邀请著名科幻作家刘慈欣,小冰公司首席执行官李笛,中国美术学院创新设计学院媒介与交互研究所副所长俞同舟,媒介与交互研究所教师、导演、影像设计师端木琦,MYStudio设计研究事务所主理人、哈佛大学中国艺术实验室研究员及项目负责人于博柔、闵嘉剑,柏林艺术大学客座教授迭戈·阿古洛(Diego Agulló),伦敦大学皇家霍洛威学院讲师阿尔菲·鲍恩(Alfie Bown),意大利科幻作家、编辑弗朗西斯科·沃尔索(Francesco Verso),更新代科幻作家代表、电影《辑魂》原著作者江波。


      With the theme of Eastern Fantasy, the Forum "Metaverse: from Digital Bard to Posthuman" is convened by Lucia Luo, Dean of Penglai SF Academy and Ping Yang, Chief science fiction writer of Penglai SF Academy, and co-organized by Eight Light Minutes Culture. The guest speakers include famous science fiction writer Cixin Liu; Di Li, Chief Executive Officer of Xiaoice;  Tongzhou Yu, Deputy director of Institute of Media and Interaction Design, School of Design and Innovation of China Academy of Art; Qi Duanmu, Lecturer, Director and Visual Designer; Anna Borou Yu and Jiajian Min, the principals of MYStudio, Fellow and Project Leads at Harvard FAS CAMLab; Diego Agulló, visiting professor at University UDK in Berlin; Alfie Bown, lecturer at Royal Holloway University London; Francesco Verso, Italian science fiction writer and editor; Bo Jiang, a representative of the newer generation of science fiction writers and the original author of the film The Soul.


   当后疫情时代和Web3.0时代一同到来,在无法线下见面的时刻,我们可以在元宇宙中结合虚拟的、增强的手段,以数字方式先吟游起来。这也是从分布的个体出发,去唤起群体对过去的记忆与对未来的想象,在历史与当代文化经验之间的观照。由个体与群体交织而成的“分布式叙事”,带来发散性的审美体验,推动解构重构的思考方式,打破认知局限与学科边界,将世界相连接。

       As the post-pandemic age coincides with the age of Web 3.0, when face-to-face meetings are unlikely to happen, we can start our journey as a bard digitally for now in the metaverse with the support of virtual and enhanced technologies. It is also an elicitation of collective memories of the past and imaginations for the future from perspectives of distributed individuals, and a cross-reference of history and contemporary cultural experience. “Distributed narratives”, where individuals and groups are intertwined, bring about diversified aesthetic values and life experiences, providing further momentums for the development of deconstruction and reconstruction as ways of thinking and creation, breaking through our cognitive limitations and disciplinary boundaries in an effort to connect the world through literature and art.

   

  元宇宙作为一种场域,为数字吟游提供空间,也是后人类意识空间的一部分。后人类定义纷纭,我们希望讨论的后人类,是赛博格(人机混合体),是重信息、轻实体的,是去人类中心主义的,人类被“嵌入”自身搭建的电子环境中,是信息时代的“天人合一”。这是一段新的进化历程。

       The metaverse, as a field that provides space for digital bards, is also, itself, part of the space of consciousness for post-human. Among the numerous diverse definitions of post-human, we aspire to de-anthropocentric discussions that move away from physical forms towards information, discussions with human “embedded” into an e-environment built by ourselves, and discussions about the cyborg (cybernetic organism) and the “unity of man and universe” in the information age. As we embark on a new evolutionary journey, we’ll explore all the possibilities of post-human from the perspectives of authenticity, identity and equality.

Sharing Session of  2023 Chengdu Worldcon

       本次大会还有一个特殊的环节:2023成都世界科幻大会分享会。世界科幻大会是科幻界的年度盛会,2023年将首次在中国举办,顶级科幻大咖齐聚一堂。成都市科幻协会将主持本次分享会。

       世界科幻大会强调参与性和体验感,联通全球的社群。作家、学者甚至科幻迷自己都可以申办分享沙龙(panel)、展位和派对,从不同面向、以不同方式讲述“科幻”这个大故事。每一个人既是大会的参会者,也是筹办者,每一个人的创意和智识都将成为大会的一部分,体现“共生纪元”的主题理念,我们将在分享会上领略这一共生共享的气氛。


 

        

分享会将以2023成都世界科幻大会的主题“丝绸朋克”为核心元素,通过元宇宙,向世界展现世界科幻大会的核心理念,也向人们展示其历史悠久、极富参与感的办会模式。


 


There is a special part in this conference: the sharing session of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon, an annual event in the science fiction industry, which will be held in China for the first time in 2023, with leading science fiction masters coming togather. Chengdu Science Fiction Association will host this sharing session to give science fiction fans a taste of the atmosphere of the World Science Fiction Convention in advance.


The Worldcon emphasises participation and experience, connecting the global communities. Writers, scholars and even science fiction fans themselves can apply to host panels, booths and parties to tell the great story of science fiction from different perspectives and in different ways. Everyone is a participant and an organiser, and everyone's creativeness and wisdom will be part of the convention, reflecting the theme of the Symbiosis Era, and we will enjoy this symbiotic and shared atmosphere at the sharing session.


The sharing session will put "Silk Punk"as its core element, which is the theme of 2023 Chengdu World Science Fiction Convention. The sharing session will show the core concept of the World Science Fiction Convention through Metaverse, as well as its long-established and highly participatory format.

元宇宙科幻文献展DocuMETA

   元宇宙科幻文献展DocuMETA由吟光发起,于博柔、闵嘉剑策展,俞同舟带领中国美术学院创新设计学院媒介与交互研究所团队共同完成。

       DocuMETA is convened by Lucia Luo, curated by Anna Borou Yu and Jiajian Min, and executed by Tongzhou Yu with the team of the Institute of Media and Interaction Design, School of Design and Innovation of China Academy of Art.


  正如《数字游牧》一书预测,通信技术的进步“将使我们在地理上独立于我们的家庭和办公室”,以数字形式存在。在世界各地生产信息和关系的方式,就像古时候的吟游诗人以口头形式流传故事。随着智能终端和移动互联网的普及,航空旅行、协作工具的丰富,云计算、物联网、区块链等技术的发展,数字游牧正在从一小群人的“极客”行为,升级成为一场浩浩荡荡的数字吟游方式大变革。在元宇宙科幻文献展中,通过数字拼贴、体素影像等形式将空间抽象至一系列观念,作家、艺术家作品之间的互文将引发寓言,作为数字吟游运动的一部分,革新人类今天对于空间的定义,甚至生活的方式。

      As is predicted in Tsugio Makimoto and David Manners’ influential book Digital Nomad, the development of telecommunication technology “enables us to be geographically independent from our homes and offices“, generating information and connections across the world the same way stories told by bards in old times circulated by word of mouth. With the prevalence of intelligent terminals and mobile internet, the reduction in the cost of air travel, the plentiful choices in collaboration tools and the technology advancement in cloud computing, the internet of things and the block chain, digital nomad is upgrading towards a sweeping reform of digital bard from a “geek” behavior shared among a niche group. In the Metaverse Sci-Fi Fest, space is abstracted into a series of concepts through digital montage and voxel images. Intertextuality between works of writers and artists is bound to beget a parable that renovates our definition of space, and even the way we live our lives, as part of the digital bard movement.


   本次大会上,新媒体艺术家与策展人于博柔、闵嘉剑首次提出“元宇宙文献展DocuMETA”概念。元宇宙文献展,是物质化、材料化与科技化的综合体现,超越“文献”自身。这一名字来源于语源字面的误读,却对当代汉语艺术界给出了创造性的启示。以“文献”为原始素材进行媒介再创作与空间再呈现,从“语言是思维的边界”,到“以幻想作为媒介,打开思维的可能性”。在元宇宙中,推导探索一种跨文化、跨媒介、跨学科的学术研讨与艺术创作过程,实现人文、艺术、技术之间有机结合。在这种研究成果——艺术创作——审美体验的转译中,弥合矛盾、错位与隔阂。

      In the Fest 2.0, Anna Borou Yu and Jiajian Min, new media artists and curators, introduce the Concept of DocuMETA for the first time. As a synthesis of physicality, materiality and technology, DocuMETA is beyond the "document" itself. While the Chinese translation derives from an etymological misinterpretation, it turns out to be a creative inspiration for the contemporary Chinese art world. According to Wittgenstein, the limit of one's language is the limit of one's world. Nowadays in the context of Metaverse, we embrace fantasy as a new language, through which we can expand the world. This exhibition employs "documents of literature" as the original material, recreates the exhibited medium and represents the meta-space. In the metaverse, we explore a multi-cultural, trans-media, and cross-disciplinary process of sharing academic research and artistic creation, reaching an organic integration between humanities, art, and technology. Through the translation among research study -- artistic creation -- aesthetic experience, some of the contradictions, dislocations, and disconnections would be removed.


   和首届元宇宙科幻大会相比,本次大会的展品在内容及呈现上更加多元。吟光、云龙的原创音乐《无人》引出东方幻想世界观;每位参观者都化身“数字吟游诗人”,是世界构建和多元叙事的组成部分。在古代,吟游诗人游走四方,收集故事也传颂故事,是文明的守护者。而如今,旅程从现实进入线上,古典穿越未来。

       Compared with the Metaverse Sci Fi Fest 1.0, the content and medium diversity of Exhibits are highlighted.  The original music "No Man" by Lucia Luo and Yunlong evokes an eastern fantasy worldview; each attendee is a "digital bard", an integral part of world construction and multiple narratives. In ancient times, bards travelled extensively to collect and disseminate stories as guardians of civilizations. Now, the journey of “digital bards” travel across realities and virtual spaces, through classical times into imaginary futures.


藉由元宇宙,我们为科幻和艺术创设一种新的“观看之道”,结合游览、观照、多感官体验,实质超越了观看这一行为。新的空间艺术体验与分布式叙事手段,模糊了作者与读者身份界限:观众加入这个世界,接近、了解、接受,成为世界的一部分。

Through the Metaverse, we create a new "way of seeing" for sci-fic and art, combining circulating, watching, and multi-sensory experiences that essentially transcend the act of seeing. The new spatial art experience and distributed narrative methods blur the boundaries between author and reader identities: the audience enter into the world, approach, understand, accept, and become a part of the world.


艺术与文学展品互文

Intertextuality between Art Exhibits and Literature Exhibits


    本次展览所呈现的反重力多面体世界,以“分形”、“奇观”、“建筑”、“超人”、“混沌”、“复魅”、“幻境”、“系统”八个主题环境,以及“书房”、“暗房”两个特别体验空间。与面(艺术作品作为空间)、线(空间之间的转换路径)、点(作为数字吟游者的观众)、核(中心交流会场)形成的复合关系,为观众展示了现实所不可游之境。结合“东方幻想”这一主题,以节奏化的排布回应中国美学中的时空同构想象。

         The exhibition guides the audience into a land inaccessible in the real world where a non-gravitational polyhedral world, encompassing eight scenarios themed “Fractal”, “Wonder”, “Architecture”, “SuperHero”, “Chaos”, “Re-enchantment”, “Fantasy” and “System” respectively, and two special rooms“Dark Room” and “Reading Room”. It is combined with the surface (artworks as spaces), the line (paths of conversion between spaces), the point (audience as digital bards) and the core (the central venue for communication), forming compound relations. The rhythmic layout echoes the imagination of time-space isomorphism in Chinese aesthetics in combination with the theme of “Eastern Fantasy”.


展品由科幻文学与新媒体艺术作品共同组成。我们将科幻作家的作品与学术讨论、手稿与笔记、转译视觉和多媒体材料、甚至他们工作生活之器物,共同置于展览空间,将观众带入语境当中,彼此既是映照,也作为进一步拓展的方式,激发新思想和新观点。

The exhibits consist of both sci-fi literature and new media artworks. Sci-fi writers’ works and academic discussions, manuscripts and notes, visualization and multi-media materials, and even items for work or daily use on display bring the audience into the context, serving as both reflections of each other and means for further expansion in an effort to inspire new ideas and new views.


 

  

     本次大会与八光分文化合作,在“书房”展出了英国作家布赖恩·奥尔迪斯的珍贵资料。奥尔迪斯是声名显赫的科幻新浪潮作家,被誉为“英国科幻小说教父”,曾与中国结下过不解之缘。1979年,他随英国文化代表团到访中国,受到中国国家领导人接见,为中国和西方的文化交流做出了杰出贡献。他的后人提供了其生前珍贵的藏品第一次面世,为了采用更“科幻”的媒介方式,展品以三维扫描模型呈现,包括“海利科尼亚”地球仪、真人全身扫描等。《科幻世界》杂志社首任社长杨潇老师得知本次展览后,也慷慨提供她珍藏多年的与奥尔迪斯友情见证的书信等物。

  Noteworthy, we have a very special presentation included in our exhibition, a collection of personal items of the late British SF “godfather” Brian Wilson Aldiss, in the form of 3D digital model, courtesy of his daughter Ms. Wendy Aldiss, a professional photographer. As the debut of this precious content and also a sample for the proposed future program at Worldcon 2023 in Chengdu, this exhibition will include a digital reconstruction of his full-body figure, scanned a few years before he passed away, as well as his epic “Helliconia” tellurion. Xiao Yang, the first president of Science Fiction World Magazine, learned about the exhibition and offered her many treasured letters that witnessed her friendship with Brian W. Aldiss.


    “复魅”是近期热门的话题,哈佛大学博士候选人陈济舟于2022年9月在蓬莱科幻学院做了《从“古典”看科幻:韩松的混沌宇宙观》的讲座,在大会展示的讲稿中,他提出古典的呈现方式。未来事务管理局带来富于特色和影响力的春节主题创作活动“科幻春晚”,其历经七届,已成为中国科幻迷的过节传统。斩获第四届晨星杯科幻美术大赛最佳科幻视频金奖的短片《虹棉》,将粤剧置于赛博朋克的世界。

      "Re-enchantment" is a hot topic recently. In September 2022, Jannis Jizhou Chen, a Ph.D. candidate at Harvard University, gave a lecture titled From "the Classical" to Science Fiction: The Chaosmology of Han Song in Penglai SF Academy. In the lecture notes displayed at the exhibition, he proposed that the classical and the science fictional are not two opposing modes of literary representation. The Future Affairs Administration has brought a distinctive and influential Spring Festival themed creative activity, "Chinese New Year Sci-Fi Gala", which has become a festival tradition for Chinese science fiction fans after seven sessions. The short film Hong Mian, which won the gold medal of the best sci-fi video in the 4th Morningstar Cup sci-fi art competition, places Cantonese opera in the world of cyberpunk.

       

 


       中国美术学院创新设计学院的CG影像《连应出神》展现了“科技复魅”旅程,巫觋从祛魅的现代都市出发,走入丛林、旷野,寻求与自然的连接,重新获得神性信仰;《火星养老院——未来概念建筑幻想》设想在环境危机和疾病肆虐的时代,人类利用火星上自然形成的洞穴地形,建造了形似菌群的养老院,背后却有难以言说的真相……

       The CG video Correspondence and Distracted by School of Innovation and Design, China Academy of Art,  shows the journey of "Technology Re-enchantmen". The Protagonist, Wu starts from the disenchanted modern city, walks into the jungle and wilderness, seeks the connection with nature, and regains his divine belief. Mars Nursing Home shows an era of environmental crisis and disease, the government takes advantage of the natural cave terrain on Mars for the design of nursing home turns out to be a dark conspiracy... 

    “混沌”主题也令人印象深刻。动画番剧《银河之心》,改编自科幻作家江波同名小说,从东方文化的视角探索了人类对生存危机的应对,参观者可以看到这部动画片的预告。在科幻作家宝树、阿缺同名作品改编的漫画《七国银河》中,战国时代的纷争在银河系尺度上展开,炫目的科技与宫廷斗争、国家冲突交相辉映,科幻中饱含古韵。西班牙艺术家、柏林艺术大学客座教授迭戈·阿古洛的短片《舞蹈瘟疫》,创造了一个被舞蹈病毒和不可控制的混乱力量所感染的社会的乌托邦,实践他的“推测性研究”理念。

        The theme of "Chaos" is also impressive. The animated drama Core of the Galaxy, adapted from the novel of the same name by science fiction writer Jiang Bo, explores the human response to the survival crisis from the perspective of eastern culture, and visitors can watch the trailer of this animated film. In the comic book Seven Kingdoms Galaxy, adapted from the work of the same name by science fiction writers Baoshu and Aqui, the disputes in the Warring States Period spreaded on the galactic scale. The dazzling science and technology, court struggles and national conflicts complement each other, a Science fiction full of ancient charm. Short film Dancing Plague of spanish artist Diego Agulló comes from Berlin created a dystopia of a society that has been infected by the virus of dance and uncontrollable forces of chaos, practicing his concept of "speculative research".   


    “系统”展示全球文化系统的不同侧面。意大利著名作家、翻译家弗朗西斯科·沃尔索带来了《未来小说》(Future Fiction)系列书籍和漫画的封面艺术和插图,其中很多中国科幻作家的作品,还有来自世界各地非英语系国家作家。他致力于打通不同文化的界限,以创造出一种属于全人类的未来幻想。蓬莱科幻学院访问学者、上海交通大学副教授施东来曾于2021年12月访问蓬莱科幻学院并做《从中国传统中寻找世界性》讲座,分析了世界文学与中国文学的关系,提出中国文学走向世界的方法,展品展示了精彩讲座实录。

       "System" shows different aspects of the global cultural system. Francesco Verso, a famous Italian writer and editor, brought a visual exhibit of cover art and illustrations taken by the collection of books and comics published on Future Fiction, including many Chinese sci-fi writers, as well as writers from non-English speaking countries around the world. He is committed to bridging the boundaries of different cultures to create a vision of the future belonging to all mankind. Flair Donglai SHI, currently an associate professor based at Shanghai Jiaotong University, came to Penglai SF Academy in December, 2021 as a visiting scholar. He gave a lecture entitled "Search for Worldliness in Chinese Traditions" and provided a thorough analysis of the relationship between Chinese literature and world literature. The records of the lecture offer an excellent recapture of the points made during the event. 


      数量最多的“超人”主题,作家王威廉的《后生命》、董仁威的《克隆灵魂计划》、杨平的《山民记事》和游者的《新蓝血人》,从不同角度对后人类这一主题进行探讨。超侠的《超越11重元宇宙》中,11重元宇宙乃至无限元宇宙的设定,用超弦和维度的交错来解释了宇宙的本源。泰山科技学院学生的作品——戚皓禹的《江海一盏》,模仿古代“传奇”讲述了离奇的故事,为大会奉献了“奇观”。

       The theme of "Superman" with the largest number, the author Wang Weilian's Post-Life, Dong Renwei's Soul Cloning Plan, Yang Ping's Tale of Mountain People and the Youzhe's New Blue Blood Man, discuss the theme of post-human from different angles. Chaoxia's Beyond the Eleven Metaverses found the flavor of "fractal" in the theme of the metaverse. Qi Haoyu's A Cup of the River and the Sea, a work by students of Taishan University of Science and Technology, imitated the ancient "legend" and told a strange story, contributing a "wonder" to the conference.


在展览策划中,科幻文学与艺术作品的同步收集,为当代科幻艺术的研究提供了多样性的文献积累与材料储备。同构的展览设计,结合分布式游览路径和数字吟游叙事的展览体验,丰富了艺术阐释,扩张创作者的在场空间,也为观众的参与体验带来更多可能。新的展览形式催生和召唤着一种新的历史想象力与新存在经验,为我们应对当代文化危机提供支持。

The synchronized collection of sci-fi literature and artworks during the curation has added diverse documents and materials to contemporary sci-fi art. Isomorphic designs and exhibition experiences combining distributed visiting routes with digital bard narratives enrich the interpretation of art, expand the space for the presence of creators, and lend to more possibilities of visitor experience. The new form of exhibition gives rise to and appeals to a new imagination of history and empirical experience, which supports us to handle contemporary cultural crisis.


展望

  如果说,第一届大会是中国科幻界与艺术界在元宇宙的首次相聚,第二届大会就是中国科幻界与艺术界在元宇宙对国际的首次亮相,相信它能够开创线上线下、跨国创作和交流的新模式,邀请更多跨界跨国艺术家参与,搭建跨领域创作平台,为未来更深层面的融合,贡献力量。

      If the first fest is viewed as the first rally of the Chinese sci-fi community and art community in the metaverse, it’s fair to say that the second fest is the first debut of the Chinese sci-fi community and art community in the metaverse on the international stage. We believe that it will initiate a new paradigm for cross-border creation and communication, both online and offline, build an interdisciplinary platform for art and literature creation, and contribute further to the fusion in deeper levels in the future. 


   未来、当代、现代与古典,神话与科幻,人与物,文学与艺术,往来于地球两侧的数字信号所承载的思想……这些相互交织、纠缠、转化,形成了无数回环。

The future, the contemporary, the modern and the classical, myths and sci-fi, people and objects, literature and art, and the ideas carried by digital signals travelling back and forth across the globe… These elements all intertwine, wind and transform into countless loops.


  我们希望从当下的热点“元宇宙”出发,在数字世界里尽情地“吟游”,进行超越现有范式的思考,探索未来的“后人类”的生活图景。这是否将成为解决如今世界困境的方案?尚且无法定论,但可以出发探索。

     We are looking forward to being a “bard” in the digital world, starting from the trending topic of the “metaverse”, and bringing our mind beyond existing paradigms to explore potentials for the “post-human” life in the future. Can it provide a solution for the dilemma we face today? There is no foregone conclusion yet, but we are hopeful that this is a good start for our exploration.
