With less than two months remaining until the opening of the Chengdu Worldcon on October 18, sci-fi hitters and fans from around the world will gather in Chengdu to jointly celebrate this grand SF event.

The World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) is a grand gathering for global sci-fi fans. To foster greater participation from the fans in this significant event, the Committee of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon is calling for global submissions for the mascot's name, slogan, and collectibles for this convention.

Sci-fi fans whose submissions are selected will receive benefits, including walk-in reservation channels for the Worldcon opening ceremony and Hugo Awards ceremony, physical admissions, etc. For what are you waiting? Unleash your boundless imagination and join the call now!

With a streamlined style and delicate metallic texture, the “Voyager” mecha on the giant panda pays tribute to the spaceship from the classic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The designs of the “Stellar Energy” and “Sunbeam Neurotransmitter” are derived from the venue of the Chengdu Worldcon and the sun bird totem at Jinsha ruins, respectively. The “Sliver Leaf Vascular Technology Knob” on its head, inspired by the ginkgo leaf, is the core controller of the mecha. The “Staff of Creation” held by the giant panda KORMO is inspired by the golden staff artifact and bamboo from the Sanxingdui Museum. The “Stellar Messenger” on the top of the staff is derived from the bronze bird from Sanxingdui.

The tentative name of this amazing giant panda is KORMO. The Committee now is calling upon sci-fi fans for a more creative and imaginative name for the mascot. The final name will be selected from the submissions.

The collectibles being sought in this call can be categorized into three main types:

1. Objects, photographs, and audiovisual materials that reflect and represent the development of the Worldcon, Chinese science fiction, and the preparation of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon.

2. Artworks, handicrafts, publications, printed materials, and photographs that reflect the international science fiction industry, manuscripts and signatures of renowned figures and sci-fi writers, and other artistic works of special significance.

3. Other science fiction-related collectibles and documents that are worth collecting.

It should be noted that collectors must ensure the legality of the sources of their collectibles and assume the relevant legal and financial responsibilities for the legitimacy of the collectibles.

To your mind, which slogan best represents the value and significance of science fiction? Which one can truly express the voice of sci-fi fans? To live up to the fans’ expectations regarding the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon, the Committee is also calling for slogans from sci-fi fans worldwide.

If your "sci-fi slogan" is exceptionally creative with a clear theme that reflects science fiction’s role in facilitating cultural exchanges among different races and nations, agrees with the convention's ideas of joint building, creation, and sharing, and embodies the cultural features of Chengdu, your work will have the opportunity to become the slogan of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon!

It should be noted that the slogan should be limited to 4-12 Chinese characters (punctuation marks included) in both Chinese and English. When submitting, please describe your idea, inspiration, and concept of the slogan within 500 Chinese characters. Participants must ensure that their submissions are original works.

To express our gratitude to global sci-fi fans for their support, the Committee offers benefits to fans whose submissions are selected.

Every sci-fi fan whose mascot’s name or slogan is selected will receive eight benefits, including three physical admissions, attending the Worldcon opening ceremony as a guest, a walk-in reservation channel for the Hugo Awards ceremony and the Worldcon closing ceremony, a mascot gift package, work to be introduced and preserved in prominent sections of the Worldcon publications, a commemorative certificate and a letter of gratitude presented by the Committee, a free Pidu-trip, and free pickup service from airports to the venue. 

Every sci-fi fan whose collectible(s) is selected will receive five benefits, including two physical admissions, a walk-in reservation channel for the Worldcon opening ceremony and Hugo Awards ceremony, a mascot gift package, collectible(s) to be compiled and preserved in the Worldcon publications, and a commemorative certificate and a letter of gratitude presented by the Committee.
